We employ two types of working dogs. Our Border Collies are a valuable and necessary part of our everyday chores here. Since we make extensive use of rotational grazing, the dog are called upon to help move sheep regularly. Whenever we need to sort sheep, bring in or take out a ram, catch ones or measure weights, we depend on the working dogs to help us. Indeed, some chores would be almost impossible without them.
We also employ a Livestock Guardian Dog. He live with the sheep at all times and protects them from the predators that also live in our area. His loud bark and large size help convince the coyotes, mountain lion, bobcat, stray dogs and eagles that these sheep are not on their menu. He regularly patrols the area keeping an eye on our stock as well as the neighbors.
